Foundation Level Overview
Upon completion of this course, you will have acquired:
- Core theoretical knowledge across implant dentistry
- Ability to assess prospective patients and identify the complexity of cases according to the SAC classification
- Ability to restore and maintain implant restorations
- Knowledge of peri-implant tissue health and implant prosthesis maintenance
- Ability to manage simple complications
The Foundation level course comprises six topics, each with dedicated online learning pathways as well as collaborative learning exercises and a hands-on program. It covers the basic principles and science of implant dentistry as well as the assessment, treatment planning and restoration of straightforward cases.

To develop the knowledge and clinical skills required to assess, treatment plan, and restore implant cases as well as provide day-to-day implant monitoring and maintenance

The course will combine online contact sessions, self-learning, and face-to-face meetings with hands-on training
To help answer the initial questions relating to the time of all the ITI commitments and meetings, we have agreed on the following:
Leading up to the first meeting, we will send connect emails with a breakdown of the structure and links to the classroom and what is needed. Over the next few months we will create the entire sequence, including which modules to work through and deadlines for each of them, but here’s a general overview to start:
Launch and First Orientation Meeting: 29 May
First Contact Session: 4 July
Second Contact Session: 1-2 August
Exam: 28 August

Course Structure
Hands-on program
The hands-on course program is set over two dedicated weekends and is designed to take learners through a basic step-by-step learning experience to prepare for:
- Assessment, treatment planning and restoration of SAC straightforward patient cases
- Practical clinical skills involved in routine monitoring of existing implants
Hands-on exercises are managed by implant specialists and ITI fellows and supported by dedicated teaching videos. Topics include:
Routine monitoring:
- Assessment and Maintenance of Implants and Their Prostheses
- Refitting of Cement-Retained Implant Prostheses
- Retrieval of Implant Prostheses
- Healing Abutment Management
Restoration:
- Conventional Implant Impressions
- Abutment Selection
- Occlusal Registration
- Fitting Screw-Retained Implant Prostheses
Case-based learning exercises:
- 10 – Curriculum patient assessment cases
- 6 – Curriculum implant therapy support scenarios
Examination & certification
Participants who successfully complete the hands-on program and pass the final online examination after completing all domain topics will be awarded ITI certification. The final examination is a multiple-choice online exam, consisting of 80 questions to be completed in 90 minutes. The pass rate for this exam is 60%, which must be achieved for certification.
